N/AAbout Basic Needs Basic Rights Kenya (BNBR)
Basic Needs Basic Rights (BNBR) Kenya is a registered national Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) that has intervened in mental health in Kenya since 2005. We empower communities to provide care and social support to promote mental health and wellbeing, prevent mental health problems and accelerate recovery for those with mental health conditions. We focus on the resilience and wellbeing of individuals as well as their communities through interventions in health, economic, and social inclusion. Our community mental health approach comprises elements of psychosocial support, community development and livelihoods, research and advocacy, and system strengthening. This is informed by evidence that addressing mental wellbeing and illness goes beyond health institutions/psychiatric facilities, given that mental wellbeing and illness themselves are not simply health issues, but have social and economic causes and effects.
