N/AAbout Turkana Livelihoods Development Organization
Turkana Livelihoods Development Organization (TULIDO) is a community-based civil society located in Turkana, Kenya. The organization was formed by a team of young Kenyan professionals with experience in education, nutrition, livelihoods, and health to address the persistent problems of food and health insecurity caused by climate change, poverty, and low education levels among pastoralists of Turkana County. TULIDO is legally registered with the Ministry of Social Services and Social Security registration number HC/5010. It attained registered status in June 2019 and hence works in compliance with all relevant Kenyan laws, including the NGOs coordination Act, of 1990. Our registered office is in Lobei/Kotaruk Ward, Loima sub-county. All fifteen (15) registered founder members come from different parts of Turkana County and work with both humanitarian and government institutions, a key resource as we make our initial steps towards socio-economic and inclusive development for the most hard-to-reach communities of Turkana County. TULIDO Board of Directors is made up of professionals and public servants from throughout Turkana County. These individuals govern the organization according to relevant policies, provide technical support and guidance in strategic planning, project development, and activity implementation, and strengthen TULIDOs networks and partnerships. We are focused on improving livelihood activities in the Loima sub-county by promoting agribusiness, access to water for agricultural and livestock production, and asset protection in the face of recurrent droughts. The overall aim of our work is to improve food and nutrition security at the household level hence reducing poverty and improving nutrition status for Women of Reproductive age and children under five years. To alleviate poverty on a sustainable basis, we also participate in capacity building of organized saving and loaning (VSLAs, SHGs, etc.) groups to grow them into more sustainable and viable institutions such as SACCOs.
