Afri Educare Alliance (AECA) applies an integrated, rights-based, and community-led strategy to enhance access and retention in secondary school for vulnerable young people, especially girls living in Western Kenya, (Homabay and Migori Counties), by removing the socio-economic, health, and structural barriers that would limit their learning achievements. AECA has also supported the improvement of school infrastructure, provides learning materials, and sustains school feeding programs to improve attendance and learning for ECD children in select schools. AECA also supports Foundation Learning (ECD) & Transition Routes through early learning programs, and accelerated learning to ensure the integration of school drop-outs into the formal school system. ICT accessibility and ICT education are given to students by AECA at AECA Centers to bridge the digital divide. TVET & Entrepreneurship Education: TVET programs are incorporated into secondary schooling and AECA employability skills training to make them more employable and arm them with labor market needs. Finally, AECA works with schools to provide assistive equipment, train teachers, and ensure accessibility for disabled students. Health & Wellbeing Support: AECA integrates Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) learning, linking students to adolescent-friendly health facilities to reduce early pregnancy and increase school retention. We also provide Menstrual health hygiene and management training and support to adolescent girls including a Mind & Body program that seeks to empower adolescent girls through Integrated Mental Health and SRHR services. Livelihoods & Economic Empowerment; AECA supports the empowering of microenterprises, small business, and agricultural livelihoods through it's street business school curricula with the aim of increasing family income to meet school costs. AECA's Youth employment programs and career readiness programs link older learners to work opportunities and internships, reinforcing the value of secondary school graduation. Financial inclusion initiatives, such as savings groups, strengthen family resilience to economic shocks that often lead to school dropout. Gender Equity & Social Justice; AECA implements programs to prevent GBV, girls' education, and women's economic empowerment and rights, fostering settings to enable sustained learning. Leadership training for girls and young women promotes participation in civic life and decision-making beyond the classroom. Climate & Environmental Resilience; Climate education is integrated into school curricula to increase awareness, and community resilience programs allow households to build resilience against climate shocks that interrupt continuity of education. Through this combined approach, AECA addresses the underlying barriers of learning in Migori and Homabay counties such that adolescents not only enroll into secondary school but also stay, thrive, and transition to productive livelihoods and empowered adulthood.
