Intervention Areas

Energy for Enterprises / Productive UseForestry & Land Use

Target Population

Low-Income Individuals & FamiliesVulnerable or Marginalized Populations (General)

Problem Statement

Artisanal miners use toxic mercury and cyanide, causing severe health and environmental damage. The community relies heavily on this hazardous income source, leading to economic instability.

Proposed Solution

The project implements bacteria-based bioleaching as a safe alternative for gold extraction. It also trains miners in sustainable agriculture and bamboo farming to diversify income streams.

Expected Impact

Impacts include the elimination of mercury pollution, improved public health, and economic diversification. Bamboo cultivation aids in land restoration and carbon sequestration.

Sustainability Plan

Income from bamboo products and green energy creates a revolving fund. The project integrates with county development plans and establishes mining cooperatives to ensure local ownership.
