The project is unique in nature being a public-private partnership (PPP) between four entities that have come together to build the synergy required in responding to the current (MHM) menstrual Hygiene management and sanitation challenges. The coming together of selected public primary schools in selected counties (beneficiary), Ministry of Education (MOE-providing policy -guidelines), PadMad (a social enterprise providing reusable sanitary towels) (https://padmadkenya.com/ ) - the reusable sanitary towels’ producer, potential funding partners, stakeholders, philanthropists and well-wishers (providing the resources for the project activities) and Maji Na Ufanisi (https://majinaufanisi.org/ )- the lead non-profit organization with vast experience in community-led WASH solutions- (to pool together the expertise and resources needed for successful project implementation).

Project Summary

Maji Na Ufanisi addresses inadequate WASH and menstrual hygiene in public schools through infrastructure upgrades and education. By providing facilities and training, the project improves student health, dignity, and attendance, particularly benefiting adolescent girls.

Problem Statement

Inadequate water, sanitation (WASH), and Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) in public schools lead to high absenteeism, health risks, and loss of dignity.

Proposed Solution

Implement a Public Private Partnership to construct/rehabilitate WASH facilities, supply sanitary towels, and provide MHM/SRHR education in 8 schools.

Expected Impact

Improved health and education standards, dignified sanitation for girls, reduced absenteeism, and reduced stigma around menstruation.

Sustainability Plan

Projects are handed over to school management boards with monitoring committees (teachers, parents) established to oversee operations and impact.
