About Icon Data and Learning Labs

ICON Data and Learning (IDL) Labs is a youth-led and youth-serving community focused organization operating from Western Kenya Lake Region Economic Bloc (LREB) region. IDL Labs was registered in 2023 as a community-based organization and has been working in Kisumu County since 2022. Our vision is to promote ‘data-driven community transformation for sustainable development.’ IDL Labs acknowledges the significant role of data fluency and the transformative potential of accessible, high quality data in the success of development programs. Issue-based Collaborative Network (ICON) work is built on the strength of co-creation and collaboration with like-minded partners, individuals and organizations to generate evidence and deliver data-driven solutions. We achieve this through four key thematic areas, namely: i. Collaborative Networks, ii. Data Literacy, iii. Data Advocacy, and iv. Data Tech Incubation to create project and organization-specific solutions. IDL Labs also works closely with decision-makers, that is, at the county-level and national-level, to identify pressing community issues and opportunities for harnessing the power of data to promote sustainable development. Overall, IDL Labs advocates for policies that support increasing the capacities of communities to utilize and strengthen local data generation, and knowledge platforms promoting equitable opportunities for all.
