About Keeping Alive Societies' Hope (KASH)

Keeping Alive Societies’ Hope (KASH) was started in 2003, in Kenya, to empower key populations (KPs) and other marginalized populations to advocate for their health and human rights, so as to promote “A Just, Healthy, and Empowered Society”. KASH is registered as an organization (non-governmental organization – NGO) in Kenya. KASH while headquartered in Kisumu, has implemented projects in 22 counties under its five (5) strategic pillars (i.e., Integrated Health Services; Human Rights; Empowerment; Governance, Policy and Advocacy; and Organizational Development and Systems Strengthening) to key and marginalized population. KASH seeks to stay on course by implementing programs in the following areas: • Integrated health interventions for Key (i.e., FSW, MSM, Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals, Transgender and Intersex – LGBTI) and marginalized populations. • Human rights interventions focused on creating favorable environment to enhance access to justice and health rights by Key and marginalized communities. • Building momentum of meaningful involvement of key and marginalized communities in the governance processes both at county and national levels. • Aggressively addressing mainstream issues that compound marginalization, such as mental health, women empowerment among others • Governance, Policy and Advocacy interventions focused on Peace and conflict interventions, pre and post-election violence resolutions, meaningful engagement of Key and marginalized communities. • Organizational strengthening through periodic organizational assessment, team building activities, trainings, conferences, mid and end term evaluations. KASH intends to expand its scope by implementing climate change mitigation projects that aim to contribute towards environmental justice by undertaking the following: • Maintain globally significant biodiversity and the ecosystem goods and services that it provides to society. • Sustainable land management in production systems (agriculture, rangelands, and forest landscapes). • Promotion of collective management of trans boundary water systems and implementation of the full range of policy, legal, and institutional reforms and investments contributing to sustainable use and maintenance of ecosystem services. • Support to transformational shifts towards a low-emission and resilient development path.
