RegisTree is a female-led start up that combines technology and capacity-building to support community-led ecosystem restoration projects which also contribute to their livelihood resilience in relation to the blue economy. RegisTree is duly registered in Kenya since April 2023, and having conducted community engagements since October 2022. Our community engagement has revealed various challenges facing community based groups restoring and protecting the Mida Creek and the related activities. We have found that they are deeply under-capacitated and lack support to scale their profit-geared enterprises. These challenges vary from lack of access to safety gear such as gumboots to lack of monitoring and evaluation of their planting activities, and lack of capacity to scale their livelihood activities. Additionally, these communities are faced with a threat to their livelihood with prominent conversations on conservation without inclusion of livelihood aspects. By defining and quantifying conservation projects and outcomes, we help community groups in the Mida Creek to formalise their conservation efforts to create quality small-scale climate and livelihood impact projects to develop a registry of verifiable trackable restoration projects for funders and governments. This will help to catalyse the accomplishment of climate goals and commitments. The conservation and livelihood projects in our pipeline are in circular economy, nature-based solutions, aquaculture and blue carbon.
