Project Partners Inc

We will partner with 10 Billion Strong, a U.S.-based organization which focuses on environmental leadership. 10 Billion Strong will support the project by advising on content, program management, connecting youth leaders with U.S. experts and resources, serving as a trainer, and supporting program monitoring and evaluation. We will partner with universities and colleges from the three respective counties, Kilifi, Mombasa and Kwale. These are institutions that will provide us with the target number of students, 300 of them. We will also partner with Key Stakeholders who are (KFS) Kenya Forest Service to provide us with analyzed data on the mangrove species to be planted in targeted creeks of the counties and the most degraded areas and the relevant county government officials i.e the department of natural resources, CFA’s (Community Forest Associations) since they are best placed to know the current issues in the ecosystems they manage in partnership with KFS.

Project Summary

This program engages 300 university students in Mombasa, Kilifi, and Kwale in environmental leadership and mangrove restoration. It builds civic engagement and equips youth to address climate change and conservation challenges.

Problem Statement

Coastal regions face excessive mangrove deforestation, leading to biodiversity loss and coastal erosion. Simultaneously, there is declining civic participation among youth, threatening the continuity of community-led conservation efforts.

Proposed Solution

An environmental leadership program focusing on mangrove restoration and advocacy. Students participate in replanting 300ha of mangroves and learn to navigate power structures to effect environmental change.

Expected Impact

Restoration of mangrove ecosystems enhancing biodiversity and coastal protection. A cadre of 300 empowered youth leaders. Economic benefits for local fisheries and increased community resilience to climate change.

Sustainability Plan

The program is integrated into the organization's core mission, ensuring continuity. Alumni serve as mentors for future cohorts. Income generation from the sale of mangrove seedlings supports ongoing activities.
